How to Attract New Customers and Keep Them

One of my bosses from a long time ago told me this…

“My best customers are the ones that took the longest to acquire.”

That one sentence has stuck with me for more than 20 years, probably because it is true. And so, I have found myself to be in this very situation, not as the business but as the customer.

So the question is How to Attract New Customers (and Keep Them.) In network marketing and building an online business the answer is Relationships!

I met my mentor and business partner Rob  Gehring about a year ago when I joined his Viral Mailer. After joining, Rob contacted me personally to welcome me and see how he could help. We chatted for a while and at some point, Rob asked me to join Empower Network with him. I declined mostly because I had other things I was focusing on at the time.  Once or twice a month Rob would PM me on Facebook and we talked about business and our lives and began to build a relationship.

About 6 months later I was looking for something different in my online business. I talked to Rob at length about the Empower Network and doing business with him, but after much consideration I went in a different direction yet again. Rob could have written me off or been mad or angry, but instead he supported me in my decision. Even though I decided not to do business with Rob our friendship continued.

At one point, Rob told me about a promotion Empower Network was running for their Blogging Platform. I decided to take a look and did the 14 day trial, then decided once again to take a pass. So still we remained friends, but did not have a business relationship.

Fast forward to about 1 year after Rob and I met. Rob sent me a link for a new trial offer. This time I decided to take a serious look. The timing was right for me because of what was going on in my life and in my online business. I joined Empower Network and now am an important part of Rob’s network to stay. Another mentor from a very long time ago told me that in business you must always build relationships and stay close to your potential customers so that when they are ready to buy you will be the first one they turn to. This couldn’t be more true than in my relationship with Rob.

To summarize, Rob actually presented Empower Network to me a total of 4 times before I made the decision to do business with him.

The moral of my story about how to attract new customers and keep them in network marketing is…

Build real relationships, foster them and cherish them. If someone chooses not to do business with you, that’s OK, build the relationship and continue to build your network with good people you know and like. One day when they are ready, they may just decide to do business with you. Until then, you have made a good friend and you can never have too many of those.
