Persistence Will Get You Everywhere

What Does It Take to Be Successful In Network Marketing?

You could probably read a hundred blogs and still maybe not have the complete answer, but I have a few ideas that I think may be pretty helpful in pointing you in the right direction.  One thing is for certain success in this business does not happen in an instant, it doesn’t happen overnight, it may not even happen in a year or two. And finally, as I always say there is no such thing as “get rich quick.” What it does require is time, patience, persistence, being open to learning new ideas, and being willing to realize that there are many others who have gone before who probably know a whole lot more than you do and who want to help.

Time, Patience & Persistence:

Over 20 years ago when I was much younger I was introduced to a network marketing business called Amway.  You may have heard of it. Back then there was no internet, there were really only a few personal computers around, and if you had one, you were lucky. We did the Amway business in people’s living rooms on a whiteboard. Every Friday night for the better part of a year, I drove about 100 miles each way back to my home town because that’s where my support system was and that’s where my business was growing.  We would do what was called “showing the plan” which required drawing a bunch of circles on the white board so folks could see how much money they could make.

Friday nights turned into mid week meetings and so on and I just kept driving the miles in hopes of a better life for me and my family. I poured my heart and soul into that business and I never regretted the time spent because the knowledge and experience I gained has carried me through many facets of my adult business life and even prepared me for this new world of online affiliate marketing.  Which, thankfully does not involve all that driving.

My point is that working that business took a lot of my time and patience.  Because during that year, I never really made any money, but I persisted and kept  focused on my goals.

Never Stop Learning:

If you have been running any type of home business for one week, one year or even ten years you must realize you can never stop learning.  The moment you think you know it all, you are finished. I am finding I learn new things every day. Sometimes the hard part is where to find this wealth of information.  I have found there are a few key places that are goldmines for new and valuable information that will help your online business succeed:

  • Social Media is a great place to start looking. There are 2 things you will find here.  First, you will find information.  If you weed through all those posts and links for new business opportunities you can find articles, eBooks and blog posts with tips, tricks and just plain great advice regarding owning and operating a successful online business. Second, you will find experienced marketers. If you take the time to actually interact with people and read their posts you may actually meet one or two experienced marketers who are willing to take a little time from their busy schedules to show you the ropes.  If you are lucky enough to find someone willing to invest their time in you it is worth your time and effort to listen to them with respect. You won’t regret it.
  • Your Upline is also another great resource.  In an earlier blog post I wrote about getting to know your upline sponsor. If you have a good sponsor they will be more than happy to work with you to help you build your business.  This is another valuable resource you do not want to squander if the opportunity is presented.
  • Program Owners have a ton of information to share. I am fortunate to be a part of The owners provide thousands of hours of education that I can use in my own business or even share. Many owners also send out regular newsletters. Don’t just delete them and send them to your email’s trash bin. Take the time to review these messages as they generally contain very important news updates and general program information. Also, make sure to check out the program’s home page on a regular basis.  Most owners post important news, information and tips here as well.

Use this information as a starting point as you begin to grow your own business. Remember, the key to persistence is never losing site of your goals and dreams, they will always get you through to the next day.

To Your Success,

Bob Swetz
