Once you finish writing the perfect blog post, you want the world to see it, right? At least that is the objective of most bloggers. Getting website traffic is critical especially if you are using your blog as a place to build your brand, increase your authority and perhaps even to sell products and services. If no one sees it, it will be pretty hard to accomplish those objectives.
Social Sharing is a good and easy way to get Website Traffic to your blog!
Of course, it helps to have a good social media strategy, so check out Creating Your Social Media Marketing Plan for Maximum Results to make sure you are on the right track.
Getting Website Traffic with Social Media Sharing
Let’s get started by getting people you know to come see your new work of art.
This is still one of the best and most reliable ways to get website traffic.
Each time you complete a blog article, share it on social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Pinterest. Share it on your profile and in groups if possible, which mostly applies to Facebook and Google+
The first step is to get a Plugin with social sharing capabilities. I use Jetpack, so let’s go with that for now. To do this, select “Plugins” from your WordPress dashboard menu and hit “Add New.” Find the Jetpack by WordPress.com Plugin and activate it.
Once you activate Jetpack you will have to connect it to WordPress.com so follow the prompts and select the “Free” plan when asked. After the connection is successful, you will come back to your blog and activate the Jetpack features.
Next, click on Jetpack from your dashboard and go to the Settings menu. On the Sharing tab and turn off “Automatically share your posts to social networks.” and click “Configure your sharing buttons” under the “Add sharing buttons to your posts” section. This will take you to WordPress.com to complete the setup. Hit “Edit Sharing Buttons” and click on LinkedIn and Pinterest to add them to the list. Also select “Official Buttons” and “Show Like Button.” When you are finished hit Save Changes and close the configuration page.
After you publish your article, you will see the social share buttons at the bottom.
You will be the first one to share your post. Give it a try by hitting the Facebook share button and you will see a popup of your article with the featured image and excerpt.
Notice you can share to your timeline or by clicking the box you can share to a page or group. I recommend sharing to your timeline and several groups. Repeat this for each social media site.
Once you have completed your sharing, hop on your social media accounts and ask your friends to check out your post and to share it as well. Also, ask them to leave a comment when they stop by to read your post, it helps to create additional interest from other visitors.
To Your Success,
